Beercelona's fifth season took place at the back end of 2016 into the first week of 2017. It was a successful season for the club on the whole but marred with a sloppy ending that cost them a runner up spot that was theirs to lose with three to play. Nevertheless it was full of positives. It was a high-scoring season for the boys with a 6-1 win against Sangre Azteca and a club record 7-0 hammering of Farfrom Athletic. The season only had 13 regular games as Farfrom Athletic forfeited the away game. The team finished with their highest points tally (14) and a positive goal difference for the first time.
After a tough season of transition the season before, Beercelona looked much more settled this term, with four players playing in ten or more of the thirteen games. Injury to Connor Hall meant he missed most of his final season before his contract ran out in December. The only new regular player was Academy graduate Chris Walsh, a dynamic centre midfielder who many fans feel has filled the box-to-box role vacated by Andrew Butt. Stephen Squibbs was inspired between the sticks, this will forever be remembered as his season, winning the team points single handedly and keeping them in many games with his saves and rushing. Slocum continued his form from the season before, going one better and bagging seven goals. But it was wunderkind Matt Gibson who stole the goal scoring headlines, having a great season and bagging ten goals, a tally one away from Andy Butt's club record. The boys were unlucky against rivals International, losing by one goal in each of the corresponding fixtures, once via a cruel own goal and once through an inspired goal from an impossible angle by arch nemesis Jack Deighton. The El Classico games were feisty affairs, with Beercelona comfortably running out 5-0 victors in the first, before capitulating to a 2-0 loss in the return fixture.
